Description

The remains of a tank training range on Selworthy Beacon, Bossington Hill and North Hill. There are three triangular circuits with associated target railways. There are numerous observation posts and other features in the area, these are listed on the NMR sheet (see further information). Condition: good. The individual elements which made up the tank training range were visible on historical aerial photographs and mapped as part of the Severn Estuary RCZAS mapping project (Source 3). The training site covered most of Bossington and North Hills, and the associated army camp was 'located on Minehead's North Hill between Lower Moor Farm in the east, Wood Combe in the west, Greenaleigh Farm in the north and Camp Reservoir in the south [Centred at SS 9566 4726], the military training ground consists of purpose built concrete military roads, Nissen huts and military buildings, tank marshalling and loading areas, as well as defensive earthworks such as weapons pits.'
