Description
A platform terraced into a steep hillside on the west side of Henner’s Combe, there is some concrete rubble on the east side. It may be an observation post or gun emplacement, dense gorse meant that the RCHME surveyors could not record the whole site. It is associated with the World War II tank training ranges on North Hill. Condition: good. [1]
The possible Second World War observation post was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and mapped as part of the Severn Estuary RCZAS mapping project. Defined by platform, centred at SS 9155 4880, with a hollowed area to the west which possibly housed the observation post. Further information, sources and photograph references are available in the Exmoor National Park HER record MSO8103. [2]
