Description

A concrete road constructed east-west along the length of North Hill, as far as Selworthy Beacon where there is now a car park.It was built by the army near the beginning of World War II. It gave access to the tank training ranges on the hill. It now acts as the only vehicular access to the area, and is used by visitors and local people. It was only after local people protested that the National Trust agreed to keep the main trackway on its land, other side roads were removed.[Grid ref is for one end only the other end is at SS 9631 4668].

Before the war Hill Road followed the route of the present footpath along the south side of the south enclosure wall of East Myne Farm land and then West Myne land, on the 1889 O.S. first edition 1:2500 map it finished at the entrance to the enclosed land of West Myne Farm (SS9252 4828). From that point a footpath went to the farm and another continued south of the enclosure wall. Condition: good. [1]
