Description
Located at the summit of Dinas Emrys at an altitude of 135m OD. Thought to be the base of, and all that remains of a tower or 'citadel', thought to be 12th C. in date. The centre is sunken, now partly infilled, rectangular in plan (c.10m X 7m) and has clearly visible walling of local rubble masonry (now partially collapsed to the east and south, and overgrown in places) standing to a height of 1-2m. The outer walling varies in width, the north & south walls c.1m wide; the east wall, SE & SW corners widen up to c.3m in places. The citadel is at the summit of a rocky outcrop accessed from the north, the ground falls away steeply to south, east and west.

The rectilinear stone tower on the summit of Dinas Emrys, now in ruins, was well built, rectangular with a battered base and measured 10m x 7m internally. It must be recognised as one of the earliest stone castles in Gwynedd.
The tower was subject to consolidation works in 2013.
