Description

A deserted medieval/post-medieval farmstead set south of and above Henner’s Combe Farm. It is a possible candidate for the Domesday settlement of Mene (Myne), other sites that may be the original settlement are 115436 [MNA167489], 115437 [MNA167490] and 115468 [MNA167560]. There is one building platform 15m x 7.5m cut into the hillslope at its southern end. It lies in a stone-banked enclosure which has been much destroyed on the south and east sides. Stock has also trodden the area fairly vigorously. Remaining on the site is a post-medieval barn and a stone-lined spring. Unlike the deserted farmsteads of East and West Myne the farm site, with its fields, is included in the parish of Selworthy with the boundary enclosing the farm, then returning to its previous line. Condition: good. [1]

The very poorly preserved remains of a deserted farmstead (centred at SS 91686 48308). A number of agencies have confused the remains: bulldozing in 1977; the dumping of WW2 and other material on the site during land improvement after the war; the presence of a later barn mentioned and a stone lined spring; and more recent animal erosion on the site. The most likely interpretation of this site is that it represents a small farmstead of medieval or early post-medieval date, which later failed and became only a barn with stone lined spring by the time of the Tithe Map of 1841.
