Description
The deserted farmstead of East Myne is set at the head of Grexy Combe, with the house on a south-facing slope. The remains of this building are recognisable with the chimney and oven still apparent. Opposite are remains of the threshing barn and other buildings. Immediately to the north of the site is a modern building still in use by the tenant of the land. The farm has not been tenanted since the early 20th century. During World War II the site was part of tank training ranges on North Hill and was used for target practice. Condition: fair. [1]
The site (in 1998) now consisted of the ruins of the former farm approached by a hollow way; these features lie to the south of two modern farm sheds. The ruins are substantial and comprise random stone walls up to 3 m high, although still upstanding, they are rapidly decaying due to natural agencies and farm animals. Further information, sources and photograph references (including those used in the Severn Esturary RCZAS mapping project) are available in the Exmoor National Park HER record MMO215. [2]
