Description

Stowe Barton Farm is situated on Duckpool to Sandy Mouth property and dates from the Post-Medieval period. It is an extensive courtyard farm complex close to and incorporating stonework from Stowe Mansion (site 90386), built in 1679 and demolished in 1739, and its associated buildings. The complex includes part of the late 17th century H-plan stable block and yard wall. Some buildings from the mansion remain including a cottage (site 90936) further to the east. A Real Tennis court also survives.
The farm group comprises a farmhouse which incorporates part of the 17th century stable block; a pound house/carpenter's shop wing at the left and rear wing (part stabling). The yard at the rear is partly divided by the rear wing of the house to form smaller yards both of which are sub-divided by low brick walls. The farm buildings ranged around the yards comprise: a single storey lean-to; a single storey gabled store; a gables 2 storey stable range; a cow house/barn range; a calf house with loft and a cartshed.
