Description
This house, a large long 2 storey gabled T-shape building which incoporates part of the late 17th century stable block of Stowe Mansion (site 90386), is part of Stowe Barton Farm group. Under the eaves at the front right corner is a datestone inscribed J. Burge, Stratton, 1701. It has a gabled porch, and a one-and-a-half storey non-domestic wing attached to the left, which incoporates a pound house/carpenter's shop wing with a wall of a former lean-to. It is attached to a calf house (site 90937*6) and has a lean-to on its right gable. On the west side of the rear wing are a pair of privies and at the front left a shed.
The house is mainly built of different kinds of slatestone rubble with some brickwork and polyphant ashlar. The roofs is covered with slate, clay tiles and rolled metal. The outbuildings are built mainly of brick with slate roofs.
