Description

Where the outflow from the millpond runs alongside the river, before it joins it (the last 20m, see site 115652) there is cobbling in the bed of the waterway, underneath the mud and stones that get deposited. It is not clear why this was done, unless the bed of the outflow gradually became lower than that of the river so that from the junction the water tended to back up towards the mill. The cobbles would prevent further erosion of the bed of the outflow. Condition: good. [1]
