Description

A water meadow system at Brandish Street Farm has been suggested from evidence seen on 1947 aerial photographs. There is a sluice at SS 9064 4679 which directed water from the River Aller into field OS no. 6175. Apart from this no evidence for gutters remain around the farmstead. Condition: fair. [1]

The Brandish Street Farm Archaeological Survey report, one of a series of farm surveys on the Holnicote estate, shows the 1841 Selworthy Tithe map overlain with field names. The field south of Brandish Street Farm is named Vickery's Meadow. [2]

It was not possible to view the original photograph mentioned in Source 1, but on recent aerial photographs viewed from Google Earth and recent Environment Agency lidar, no features ditches are visible in the field immediately south of Brandish Street Farm. There is evidence of a water meadow on the southwest side of the river (MNA167522). [3-4]
