Description

On early maps a 16 century gun platform is shown at this location on Hurlstone Point. Two banked enclosures are visible on aerial photographs, with a curving length of bank. A slight platform was found by the RCHME surveyors, reinforced with boulders and possibly unfinished.[1]

The gun platform referred to above (1) may have been mistakenly identified with the agricultural enclosures recorded in MNA141473. See Exmoor National Park HER record MSO8051, for further information and sources. (2)

It would seem that the 16th century tower depicted on the map was for proposed works and were not carried out. (3)
