Description

Shed constructed shortly after the 1864 excavation of the site. It was removed as part of the West Range Cover Building Project in 2011. It consisted of a wooden frame resting on restored Roman walls covering rooms 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and a small vestibule area. It was steeply-pitched, double-pitched slate roof and several small windows allowed limited daylight entry. The entrance was in the southwest corner of bath-house complex, via a door from west wing corridor/portico. Unlike the shed over room 5, this building had no insulation in the roof, but was provided with an overhead radiant heating system controlled via thermostat. [SNA62028]
Thomas records that access was restricted to one corner but formerly visitors could move through the shelter over wooden planks with the mosaics cordoned off with iron railings. He also stated that a stove heater originally stood in the building with a small chimney projecting through the roof.[SNA62038]

Before removal Bob Edwards carried out a historic buildings survey of the structure in 2010.(SNA64510)

In 2011, the trusses from the building were reused in the new Salway Education Building built on the west side of the visitor reception building.
