Description
A small room in the south wing of the C4th house with no obvious features. Room 1b is at a lower level than the adjacent room 3 with a grass covered interior surface obscuring any features which may be present. Intact archaeology is believed to survive below the current floor level [SNA62028].
The buried mosaic survey recorded a remnant of a crushed limestone and mortar floor, overlain by traces of opus signinum. Also identified was the uppermost course of an east-west aligned wall which was overlain by later floor layers. This was interpreted as a cross wall, demolished prior to the laying of the floor.
