Description

The old house that was immediately east of the present Stoates Farmhouse was part of Eastcott’s Land in the 1809-12 Holnicote Estate Survey. Chadwick Healey (1901) suggests that the Estcotes held land in Lynch as early as 1325 (p.14). On the 1841 Tithe the house is recorded as a cottage, and on the 1876 Holnicote Estate map it is shown as an outline but the site (no. 107) is given as gardens. Condition: demolished. Further information: see maps and records, Holnicote Estate Office. [1]

It is possible that parts of the pigsty (Building 6) are remnants of the earlier farmhouse, which is shown intact on the 1841 Selworthy Tithe Map and ruinous on the 1876 Holnicote Estate Map.Small building shown on 1889 map in corner of yard, but removed shortly after. [2]
