Monument Types
- CAIRN (Prehistoric - 500000 BC to 42 AD?)
Description
A fairly substantial cairn of local stone piled 2m high around a natural outcrop at the northern corner of the fairly level hilltop containing 43642 at its SE corner. It is 5m in diameter and sits at an altitude of 300m.OD. As the small plateau formed by this hilltop is relatively stone-free it is possible that the clearance is either contemporary with the round cairn/cist (43642) or the presumably more recent enclosure (43660). Whether cultural or functional it certainly occupies a striking position.
