Description

A gateway is depicted on the 1756-1820 Seeley guidebook maps for Stowe gardens at the north-west end of the Grecian valley, however it is removed by the time of the 1827 guidebook. A programme of archaeological investigations was undertaken including, geophysics (Stowe 17) excavation and measured survey of the ha-ha was undertaken.

The site of the gate has been located. A stone threshold survives within the Ha-ha and traces of the ramp from the gardens was located in trenches 459 and 460.
