Description
(1) The remains of the walled gardens consist of two sections of low brick and rubble wall with a round corner and a small lean-to building against a 2.5 metre high brick wall between the remains of the walled gardens perhaps built in the mid 1700's to replace those on either side of the south front of the house. By 1781 the western garden had been replaced by the Menagerie (now the school shop) and by 1845 (Tithe map) the eastern garden had gone. On the 1845 tithe map the gardens are called Horse Close. The walls must have been lowered to their present height when the area was converted to the school athletic ground.
