Summary

The cairn was erected in 1876,and is well known to walkers and climbers that traverse the lake district fells,the summit of great Gable is just under 3000feet,and the cairn stands at about 2850 feet. The cairn stands on the brink of crags,but with safe viewing ground around the cairn itself,many visitors to the mountain summit will drop down to the cairn for their lunch or a brew up and take in the magnificent view.

The Westmorland cairn was built by 2 brothers of the name Westmorland and is not named after the county of Westmorland as some people think.
The cairn was erected in 1876,and is well known to walkers and climbers that traverse the lake district fells, the summit of great Gable is just under 3000feet, and the cairn stands at about 2850 feet.
