Description

Excavated by John Thurnham in 1857 and C.E. Ponting in 1882. "Primary crouched skeleton of elderly female in grave partly lined and roofed with sarsens and covered by sarsen cairn." (VCH p.154). Secondary crouched skeleton also covered with sarsens and the skeleton of a child, aged 2 or 3 years (ibid). Also present were urns and a perforated head of a bone pin, some pottery and a more recent horse burial (ibid).
