Description

An Anglican chapel built in circa 1530, restored in 1880 and a porch added in circa 1904. Built of random rubble lias, diagonal buttresses, chamfered plinth, slate roof, coped verges, decorative ridge tiles and comprised of a single cell, nave and chancel, south porch. [1]

The early c16 chapel of a former manor house of the Sydenhams. Hence its unusually ambitious E window (renewed 1885); three lights with a transom, the details similar to what appears at Doverhay Manor House and the church at Porlock and also at Selworthy, N and S windows of two lights. Wagon-roof. Panelled dado, W gallery with plain c17 balusters. [2]

The Chapel is early 16c, and was given back to the Church of England by the Aclands after renovations – it had been used as a barn – in the 19c. It is still used for services. [3]

The chapel is of the perpendicular period, until the late 19th century it formed part of the buildings of the adjoining farm, as a storehouse, but has been restored for use as a place of worship.
