Summary

Asbestos (?) tiled roof. Gabled at each end. Guttering to west and east. Metal rainwater goods with one downpipe each side. Behind the north-east corner of the Battery house is the remains of a decorative standing metal electricity pole or possibly a lamp standard. The top half is lying on the ground beside it. Plate 26: Electricity Pole behind Engine House First mentioned in a fire insurance schedule dated 12 April 1938 the building was listed as having a Wood Shed and Crude Oil Store, with an Electric Lighting Plant, House and Battery Room, total valued at £400. The house went on to mains electricity in November 1955 and there is a tender dated 18 November 1955 from H. Rogers and Son of Chipping Sodbury offering £160 for the complete lighting plant, including batteries, engine and dynamo (Box Wx01:09). South elevation: Rendered brick with stone dressings to double doorway. Horizontal weatherboarding to gable. West elevation: Rendered brick as above. Entrance to battery house. East elevation: Rendered brick as above. North elevation:Rendered brick as above.

Description

Ceiling: Ceiled at purlin level.
Door: D1 – double planked doors with 3 lights to each door.
Windows:
W1 – over door. Fixed metal framed window with 12 panes.
W2 – in east wall. 2-light metal framed window with 4 panes each. 1 opening casement.
W3 – in east wall. As W2.
W4 – in west wall. As W2 but 3-light with 2 opening casements and 1 fixed.

Engine room
Walls: Painted.
Floor: Concrete.
Ceiling: Ceiled at above purlin level.
Door: D2 – small double plank doors framed with 2 lights over. Hung on countersunk hinges.
Window: W5 – 2-light metal framed window, both opening casements of 4 panes each.
Battery House
Walls: Painted.
Floor: Concrete.
Ceiling: Part of truss visible. Ceiled at above purlin level.
Truss: Collar beam truss with short stirrup-strapped king post (or strut – apex not seen). ‘Y’ gusset plates to truss blade/collar joints. Iron sling brace arrangement from soffit of collar to lower ends of truss blades. One row of heavy purlins supported on cleats. Early 20th century type.
Door: D3 – framed with 2 panels. Rim lock with brass knob handle. Hung on 3 countersunk hinges.
Windows:
W6 – As W5 but with 1 opening casement.
W7 – as W6.
W8 – on north wall. As W6.
W9 – as W5 but with 3 lights (1 central fixed casement).
