Summary
Broad, low bank 1.5-2m wide x 0.3m high marking the line of a former boundary shown on the 1843 and 1889 maps. The bank is aligned N-S and low and poorly defined in places. It formerly divided two long narrow fields, likely to be remnants of a medieval strip field system.

Description
Broad, low bank 1.5-2m wide x 0.3m high marking the line of a former boundary shown on the 1843 and 1889 maps. The bank is aligned N-S and low and poorly defined in places. It formerly divided two long narrow fields, likely to be remnants of a medieval strip field system. Recommendations: The earthwork is one of an important area of boundaries on the farm which in part fossilise an earlier, medieval arrangement of strip fields, owned by several different individuals. The livestock numbers needs to be maintained at a low level to prevent erosion of the earthwork. [1][2]
