Description
Large scarp of former field boundary which follows the contour approximately E-W below the former footpath terraced track 026. The scarp is quite large, some 3-4m high in places, and heavily eroded by sheep passing from one former field to another and eroding out hollows for shelter. There are some scrubby hawthorns remaining as a hedge.
Recommendations: The field boundaries form an important part of the landscape character of the Challacombe valley, especially as the backdrop to Combe Martin itself, and as a priority these should be restored to a stock-proof condition. Other boundaries have been removed in what was ‘Evidence’ fields and ideally these should be re-instated as well where possible.
