Description

Irregular pit and disturbed ground approximately 7m N-S x 10m E-W on the W slopes of Little Hangman above Wild Pear Beach. Possible spoil on S and SW side of pit. The N and W sides are very overgrown with brambles and thick gorse. The whole area is subject to natural slippage and erosion forming scarps and terraces and there is steep slope immediately E of the site.

There is an adit recorded to the S downslope that may be related to this feature. In 1796 Swete mentioned an iron mine being opened up below Little Hangman ( see Claughton, p38).
