Description
Site visit 10/06/2000:
A modern footbridge has been built across the Hodge Beck, adjacent to a former ford (NTSMR 32644), on the route of a track and path (NTSMR 32645).
The bridge is formed by a pair of reinforced concrete beams resting on winged rubble abutments 1.8m high on either bank. There are three hand rails to either side, attached to upright iron stanchions bolted to the beams. This design is replicated in all the footbridges across the beck in the NT Estate (eg NTSMRs 32759 and 33687). It is still in use as a public footpath [1]-[3].
An "F.B." is named on the OS 1912 26" map, and a "Foot Bridge" on the OS 1857 6" map, and a map of 1820 suggests that bridge was originally just a wooden plank [4]-[6].
