Monument Types
- QUARRY (Post Medieval - 1540 AD to 1900 AD)
Description
A quarry at the west end of Bossington lane, on the north side at the end of the gardens, it is right in the extreme southwest corner of the Trust land. The O.S. field number is 0220, but the boundary between the copse and the field around it (O.S. no 9326) has been removed. On the 1809-12 Holnicote Estate Survey map, Manor of Bossington, it is enclosure O.7, Pit. On the 1842 Luccombe Tithe map (it is part of the Luccombe corridor to the sea) and the 1876 Holnicote Estate map for Luccombe parish it is field no. 61, so it is 18c or earlier, though it may also have been worked in the 19c. Condition: good. [1]
