Description

Pot was retrieved when field walking Bossington Farm in 1998 with volunteers. The finds varied from 17c to 20c and were of greatest density in field 4900, west of Lower House (115154). Some fields were under permanent grass, others were affected by flooding after the 1996 breach of the stone ridge in the western part of Porlock Bay. The fields were walked in one direction only (east-west or north-south) with about 3m between the walkers, so the retrieval rate was reasonable but by no means exhaustive. The bulk of the sherds retrieved were 19c, but both Somerset and North Devon wares were present, with two sherds of German stoneware and a few pieces from Bristol. The sherds are stored at the Holnicote Estate office. Condition: good. [1]
