Description
A wind and weather hut was built on Horner Hill by the Aclands. It was known as the Jubilee Hut and it is thought it may commemorate the Diamond Jubilee. It was of half-round timbers, with the bark on, and faced in four directions so that shelter from wind and rain could always be found by walkers. During the second World War the area was used by the army, after the war the hut was in a very poor state. Despite efforts the necessary permits for materials were not given and the remnants of the hut were pulled down, Dec 1946/Jan 1947. Many local people remember it, and the Trust plan to construct a similar shelter on the site, which can easily be seen on the path along the top of Horner Hill. Condition: good Further information: see maps and records including Dunkery Management Committee Minutes for 1946-47, Holnicote Estate Office. [1]
