Description
Halfway down the Grand Avenue, slightly to the north of the turning to Chackmore, stood the Chackmore Fountain, a tall brick kiosk incorporating a Gibbsian door surround and other early eighteenth-century stonework. A confection of the 1st Duke, it was erected c.1831 to mark the source of a spring which flows under the road. It later fell into disrepair and had to be dismantled in the late 1950s.
