Description
A town house located on a corner site. Built c 1704 as part of the original Queen's Square development, it has some early 19th century alterations. Of stuccoed brown brick, three storeys with an attic lit by dormer windows in a slated mansard roof. Basement with service rooms and vaults under the pavement to the north and east. 5 windows wide with 3-window north return. Central semicircular arched architraved doorway with fanlight; former entrance to right of return altered to bow window. Slightly recessed framed sashes under flat arches, those on ground and 1st floors retaining original stone mask keystones. 1st and 2nd floor plat bands; parapet with coping. Interior retains panelling, cornices and original cut and carved string staircase with 3 twisted balusters per tread, etc. Part of an exceptional group of Queen Anne houses.

Along with 40 & 44 Queen Anne's Gate, this building was the headquarters of the National Trust from 1945 to 1982.
