- BEETLING MILL (Post Medieval - 1540 AD to 1900 AD)
Description
The beetling mill building was originally some 26m by 8m in size and two, or possibly three, stories in height, but is now a roofless structure comprising two standing walls. The most substantial surviving portion of the structure is its south elevation, being a tall rubble stone wall located immediately behind the mill house. The eastern gable also remains and this abuts the main portion of the extant spade mill. The north wall and the west gable have been demolished.
By 1901 the site had been taken over by Moorefield Dyeing and Finishing Company who established the Beetling Mill on this site. The Beetling Mill lasted until 1913, but a mill office and store was retained up until 1919 after which time the property changed hands to W. G Patterson & Sons who by 1920 had established the Spade Mill on the site.
