Description
A gold bar in the shape of a flat axe found on the 24th May 1992 by Mr R. Mulliner of Telford in Artist's Lane, Alderley Edge, with a metal detector. Was found in the roots of a tree about 1ft from the surface in broken sandstone. Analysed by the British Museum and found to be a gold alloy, 18 carat. Weighs 97.01 gms. Decorated with punch marks not previously seen on prehistoric gold work. Not identified as belonging to any particular culture. Inquest held 26/2/93 and found not to be Treasure Trove.
