Summary
The other adit is in the side of the stream just below Gills Stage and is where Thompson's Pipe reaches the surface. The entrance hole is 1.2m in diameter and is in a very awkward position since there is a drop of 1.6m to the stream bed and there is no track approaching it from the hillside.

Description
The other adit is in the side of the stream just below Gills Stage and is where Thompson's Pipe reaches the surface. The entrance hole is 1.2m in diameter and is in a very awkward position since there is a drop of 1.6m to the stream bed and there is no track approaching it from the hillside. Presumably it was reached from another mine entrance. About 9m downstream from Thompson's pipe is a well-built revetment wall across the stream. The wall is 2.6m high and is holding back a large volume of material. The purpose of the wall is unclear but it may have been to protect a trial in the base of the stream below it, which has since become covered (Lax, A. 1995).
