Description

An earthen mound, substantial and flat-topped, 37m x 28m and 3.9m high.. On it is a 5.3m length of mortared stone walling which can be seen through the turf. There are 2m returns at each end, which are continued as earth banks which disappear into thick gorse. The site is overgrown with gorse and the RCHME Surveyors interpreted it as an observation post associated with the tank training ranges. Condition: fair but gorse will be damaging it. [1]

The Second World War observation post or Target dugout was visible on aerial photographs and mapped as part of the Severn Estuary RCZAS mapping project. Further information, sources and photograph references are available in the Exmoor National Park HER record MSO7667. [2]
