Summary
Collapsed remains of a carved limestone pedestal about 73cms square. Old holly trees continue a line north-eastwards from the stone work.

Description
(1) The collapsed remains of a carved limestone pedestal about 73cms square. This probably supported a statue. The sale catalogues of 1921 and 1922 indicates that there were two statues in the Grecian Valley, one of an athlete on a 5 foot oval stone pedestal , the other in lead of two men fighting ( probably Carpenters Roman Wrestlers of 1723) on a square pedestal. These may account for the two pedestals described here.
Re-exposed on 1/10/2018 to allow for recording prior to formation of a new concrete footing for a replica urn. 'Pedestal' is an inappropriate term as in fact it is a lime mortared rubblestone foundation for the pedestal measuring 0.7 x 0.72m and up to 0.13m thickness. Stones include three small blocks of ironstone. The Grecian Urn and plinth are a copy of the Urn and plinth at Trent Park. This was purchased from Stowe in the 1921 auction by Sir Philip Sassoon.
