Summary
A separate tunnel emerges in the grassy area adjoining the Physic Garden and Flower Garden backsheds. This is the Gardeners' Tunnel, constructed in 1816-17 by the particularly reclusive 7th Baronet Henry Harpur-Crewe. It runs for c.65m under the pleasure grounds, enabling garden staff to access the walled gardens without being seen by the Harper-Crewe family whilst they were out walking in the grounds.

Description
[1] A separate tunnel emerges in the grassy area adjoining the Physic Garden and Flower Garden backsheds. This is the Gardeners' Tunnel, constructed in 1816-17 by the particularly reclusive 7th Baronet Henry Harpur-Crewe. It runs for c.70 yards under the pleasure grounds, enabling garden staff to access the walled gardens without being seen by the Harper-Crewe family whilst they were out walking in the grounds (SNA67084).
