A rectangular room in the west wing with incomplete geometric mosaic floor in situ. As the floor is solid (no hypocaust) the room has been identified as the cold room of the west bath house.

Description
A rectangular room in the west wing with incomplete geometric mosaic floor in situ. As the floor is solid (no hypocaust) the room has been identified as the cold room of the west bath house. The mosaic has a hard cement infill to lacunae, and the stumps of 4 metal tubes, originally part of a metal barrier around the central area are visible. A quarter-round plaster moulding survives at junction of wall and floor on the west side. [SNA60228]
The biodeterioration survey concluded that little deterioration had occurred in room 14, however on the west perimeter wall the black biofilm was drying and cracking as observed in room 10, removing grains of substrate in the process. Algae had colonised the mosaic floor but only in areas of lime mortar [SNA62022].
