Description

The N side of 30652/3 is formed by 30652/4, a sharply profiled bank. This is up to 8m wide and 3m high - the highest parts being towards the centre of its main E-W extent. It steadily declines from here in either direction. In the E it appears to terminate with 30652/3 - but may have merged with 30652/6 before the water pipe trench was dug. There is considerable rabbit activity in the S side of the bank and sheep poaching to the N. The bank broadens quite widely towards the W, onto the slopes to the N. In the W it incorporates at least two limestone boulders at the point where it turns to the N. The N/S arm of the bank is 7m long, terminating adjacent to the end of 30652/3.

The inner enclosure is continued by 30652/5 - but it is very notable that the bank does not continue onto the northern half of the feature. It is therefore almost like a screen erected on the S side of the enclosure. Possibly a raised feature once continued N, and was slighted to infill 30652/5, but this is simply a theory - there is no evidence on the ground for such a history.
