Description

A rather slighter earthwork marks the N side of the inner enclosure. It is not marked on the VCH plan (1912). This consists of a slight ditch, 3m wide and up to 30cm deep, best defined by a relatively sharp S scarp. The W side continues the line of 30652*3 and then curves E, broadly parallel with the main part of the southern components, together defining a sub-rectangular inner enclosure of c.20m N/S by 25m E/W. This enclosed area is like a plateau, 30652*5 standing at the top of the next significant downslope of the valley side, declining into the northern part of the outer enclosure. Traces of this feature also terminate at the recent water pipe trench - any continuation of it was probably obliterated by the excavations associated with 31653 further to the NE - unless an isolated mound further to the E was once part of an accompanying mound. There is some bracken invasion over this feature.
