Part of "Five Barrows" group. A ditched bell barrow which measures approximately 30m wide by 3.5m high on the northern side and 5m high on the south side. The ditch measures approximately 3m wide and 1m deep the northern half of ditch has been re-excavated during WWII to create military trenching MNA196993.

Description
Part of "Five Barrows" group. A ditched bell barrow which measures approximately 30m wide by 3.5m high on the northern side and 5m high on the south side. The ditch measures approximately 3m wide and 1m deep. The northern half of ditch has been re-excavated during WWII to create military trenching which curve around the barrow and extend northwards MNA196993.
The barrows in this group appear to have been mostly excavated by John Dennett, a contemporary of the Rev Skinner who opened barrows on Afton Down. Dennett opened barrows on Brook Down between 1816 and 1840.
Further damage to this barrow can be seen from the 1946 aerial photograph of the area which clearly shows vehicle tracks leading directly over this barrow. This would date the damage to the military occupation of the downland during WWII.
