Summary
Phyliss Ireland shows that the course of the Roman road linking Segontium with Tomen y Mur passes along the NE. boundary of the property. This is a traditionally accepted view reinforced by several writers such as Samuel Lewis. However the route is by no means as certain as is inferred by these writers, and is shown only as a possible line by Ivan Margary (Margary 316-7).

Description
Phyliss Ireland shows that the course of the Roman road linking Segontium with Tomen y Mur passes along the NE. boundary of the property. This is a traditionally accepted view reinforced by several writers such as Samuel Lewis:
'The Roman road leading from Vriconium to Segontium; another from Tommen y Mur, in this parish, where the Kings of England employed in the conquest of Wales frequently encamped, to Caer Gae; and another to Sarn Helen, passed through this place (Lewis; Maentwrog)'.
and more recently by Beazley and Howell:
'Beyond the station, the Roman road from Croesor meets the B4410, which goes by way of Rhyd, enjoying marvellous views, to Llanfrothen (Beazley & Howell 234)'.
However the route is by no means as certain as is inferred by these writers, and is shown only as a possible line by Ivan Margary (Margary 316-7). Acceptance of this as part of the true route also comes from the existence of two highly dubious Roman sites. These are namely a rectangular enclosure in Nantmor (Peter crew, pers comm) and the bridge at Aberglaslyn, referred to as 'Roman' by David Erwyd Jenkins (Jenkins 277). The route now followed by the modern road from Tan y Bwlch station to Croesor is thought to be of some considerable age however, and possibly dates back to at least the 17th century (Peter Crew, pers comm).
