Description
[1] Limestone revetment wall forming the foundations of the triply curved wall at the east end of the formal gardens. The exposed length is about 24 m facing E, formed of roughly squared limestone blocks with a small 1 m square butress. The height of wall is about 2 m, at the base of which is a stagnant pool probably fed by a lead pipe exposed at its S end.
This is part of the 1710-15 formal gardens and at one stage was probably surmounted by wrought iron railings (Marshall, G. 1988: 175, Vol 1).
